What the Fuck are the Schools Doing?

This is a quickie blog post but figured I should document this story for the ages.

Last night I went and had pizza with my buddy Jason. Always interesting to hear what is going on in the world of people I don’t get to talk to all that much. So I have pizza and then do some grocery shopping. I pickup lunch for today which I was in such a rush this morning I left it at home so I have dinner for tonight while I clean the house in preparation for the girlfriend visit. I believe we are going to IKEA tomorrow. But she has been feeling a little under the weather. So being distant tried to cheer her up with some texts and an iTunes song. =)

But onto the matter at hand. So after I made my purchases I was walking out of the store scrolling through my e-mail on my cell phone. While I was doing this to young women come up and ask me for a ride home. I am not used to getting asked questions from strangers so I had to say “Excuse Me, Could you please repeat that” They asked for a ride home. So my response was “Well considering I don’t know you where would home be located?” they said in Edgewater and I didn’t know where that was so I asked for an estimate in miles. They said about 8.

So at times like this bizarre moment a few thoughts started scrolling through my head. Are these young ladies part of some police sting like to catch a predator? Is this some joke? But then the thought crossed my mind that I am a good honest guy and that I would rather have these two girls ride with me then some other person who has bad intentions. So I showed them to my car and they got in the back seat. Probably best thing for everyone.

So I get to the edge of the parking lot and I ask “So where am I going do I take a right or a left?” to which the blonde one of the two asked “Which is right and which is left” I then asked “How old are you two?” they both replied with 14.

Now I don’t claim to be a genius. (most of the time) But when I was probably 2 or so I was putting on shoes and you figure out right from left pretty darn quick. How do two 14 year old girls not know the difference? I figured 7th or 8th grade. What the fuck our the school systems teaching that you don’t know the difference between right and left? No wonder they have to dumb down the Washington Assessment of Student Learning test because they are not teaching these kids basic skills of right and left.

Seriously Property Tax pays for education. Shit like that drives me up the fucking wall what are my tax dollars being used for? Not knowing the difference between right and left. I am mean give me a fucking break. Is TV really getting to people. I saw this show on YouTube “Are you Smarter then a 5th Grader” this woman in the clip thought there were 352 feet in a yard. I mean seriously people. I will give some credit that your on TV and it’s pressure but I mean where the hell is society going?

I so gave up on TV and the News a long time ago. Like CNN was making a big fucking deal about that earthquake in Japan and leaking some stuff from a power plant out there. If you go do some research you would find out what leaked was about as radioactive as orange juice. But CNN likes to spin all this crap to keep people in fear and panicked so you watch more TV and they sell more advertising. I gave up on TV when Heroes was over for the season and then Soprano’s had their finale. I watch Entourage when I have a moment. But there is seriously not one good show on TV anymore. If someone says “Go see this show” I will wait till I have a chance to check out the DVD.

Okay back in the car with the two stupid girls. So driving along and they kept telling me “turn here” I would ask right or left and then watch them work out what they were trying to say. I dropped them off at the blinking light and that was the end of that stupidness.

At that moment I started to question what my brain was doing when I was 14. Probably thinking about computers or video games. I don’t think I turned out so bad. But when I meet someone that doesn’t know the difference between right or left I think what the fuck.

I forgot their names I think one was Trisha. I was shocked that they walked as far as I had to drive them. But I wish them the best of luck and I hope they develop some brains before they get pregnant and create some more moron kids that don’t know the difference between right and left.
